A Play-Doh shape-matching board game, designed and tested with kids in our target age group.
Objective. In 2.00b, MIT's Toy Product Design course, teams of five produce a toy for play and entertainment. With a focus on prototyping, aesthetics, and safety, teams present a novel product aimed at young children at the end of the semester.
Solution. My team (Llama Team) designed and fabricated Asteroid Evader, a board game inspired by Cartoon Network's Hole in the Wall. Players recreate shapes shown on removable slides out of Play-Doh before the timer runs out, then retract the slider to see if their molded shape makes the cut.
The game features 20+ unique shapes cut from ΒΌβ³ acrylic, an ABS 3D-printed slider, and a milled plastic game board. The timer was housed in foam sprayed with acetone to mimic an asteroid's surface. We tested the product with children in our target age group at a Boston children's museum. My responsibilities included the electronics β designing the timer circuit and its housing β and creating the unique geometries for the removable slides.
